INSPIRATION | UNIQUE PROJECTS | KVARTERET HARVEN

In the middle of Gävle, the historic Harven District has undergone a major transformation – a piece of industrial history that has been given new life with a gentle hand. Here, the old has met the new, where the architecture, developed by the architectural firm Kontrollbolaget, allows the building’s soul and period expression to live on.
It is the windows that set the tone. The large glass sections together with the powerful facade characterize the building’s architecture. A total of 120 windows have been delivered by Ekstrands, all unique and carefully adapted to the original models. There are four variants: square, arched, high from floor to ceiling and narrow vertical.
To meet both the aesthetic and technical requirements, windows of system 92 and system 68 have been used – with a straight profile, glass dividing posts and removable bars that recreate the historical expression. Some of the windows have also been made with fire-rated constructions. The exterior doors have also been manufactured in the same careful spirit to harmonize with the whole.
The color (NCS S6020-G10Y), a chrome oxide green tone that was common during the latter part of the 19th century, gives the building its historical weight and harmonizes with the industrial character. Every window, every detail, is proof of the craftsmanship and care that permeates the entire renovation.
Today, Kvarteret Harven stands as a symbol of how history can live on – not as a memory, but as an obvious part of the future.
